President's Message from Lori Candela

Hello fellow coaches,
What a joy it has been to return to Connecticut after spending almost two weeks in Florida. I enjoyed the warm weather, palm trees, dolphins, and family time while I was there, yet couldn’t help but think of the beauty of the season back home. As we were making our descent at the airport, I was so thankful to see that I hadn’t missed peak season. This past weekend when I went to the farmer’s market, I loved seeing the bounty of vegetables still available. It made me think of Thanksgiving Day (on November 24), a time to celebrate the harvest and other blessings of the past year.
Another holiday that is celebrated in November is World Kindness Day: an international holiday formed in 1998 to promote kindness throughout the world, observed annually on November 13 as part of The World Kindness Movement. It gives us an opportunity to reflect on one of the most important and unifying human principles – kindness.
When I learned of this holiday, I decided to do something that I have wanted to try for some time. While on vacation, my niece and I painted Kindness Rocks. We decorated them with a variety of designs and kind messages and plan to leave them in various locations to be found on November 13.
The theme for World Kindness Day 2022 is “Be Kind Whenever Possible.” I started to think about everyday acts of kindness, such as letting someone go ahead of me in line, smiling at a sweet baby (or a frustrated parent), giving a sincere compliment, holding the door for someone, or paying for the order of the stranger behind me at the drive-through. But what are the simple acts of kindness that we bring to the world as a coaches? It could be sending an article or quote to a client, offering pro bono coaching, or being truly present and holding space for our clients.
What will you do this year to promote kindness? I look forward to hearing about it on our social media channels and at our virtual Chapter meeting on Friday, November 18.
With much appreciation for you,
Lori
