President's Message

Hello fellow coaches,

Happy July! I love this time of year! I can’t help but think of the lyrics to the Nat King Cole song, “Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.” My crazy summer kicked off last month with three celebrations in one week: my son-in-law’s birthday, my husband’s retirement and our 30th wedding anniversary. My husband and I spent time on Block Island and a day in NYC. For the first time in a long time, I decided to set my “out of office” message and head out to enjoy two weeks without my laptop! I was a little hesitant to completely unplug so I included my cell phone number in case someone had a critical need. I found that it was the most restful and rejuvenating time I have had in years. I spent a full day at the ocean with my new beach read – The Islanders, by Meg Mitchell Moore. By creating this work/life balance, I was living in alignment with my values. Two weeks felt like two months! I came back ready to hit the ground running.

Now that I am back from vacation, I am excited to launch into my new role as President of ICF-CT. We have a vibrant chapter which provides opportunities for learning, development, and community. Later this summer, our board will meet for an in-person all day retreat to look at our chapter mission and goals and continue to develop our strategic plan for 2022-2023. We always welcome your innovative ideas. Many of our current offerings have come from our members, including Coach Cafés, speakers, International Coaching Week ideas, pro bono coaching, the formation of a DEI Committee, and even fun social events (such as our new hiking outings). Always feel free to reach out to me or any of our board members with your ideas, interests, or talents that you would like to bring to our chapter.

In the meantime, I encourage you to unplug when you can this summer, live in the moment whether it is for 10 minutes or two weeks. When you do this, you will be refreshed and able to fully enjoy these lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer!

Stay awesome!
