President's Message

Dear Fellow Coaches,

February: month of love…

In her book, Love 2.0, positive psychology expert, Barbara Fredrickson, challenges us to upgrade our understanding of love to fully see and appreciate “micro-moments” of connection as essential to our well-being. In a recent article in The Atlantic, Jamil Zaki, Director of the Stanford Social Neuroscience Laboratory, writes that “other-care’ is the key to rising out of late pandemic languishing. Both experts are encouraging us to intentionally develop the compassion habit – to notice, empathize and take action to help. Surely, these are powerful expressions of love for the humanity in others and in ourselves.

I know that you, my fellow coaches, are imbuing your life with compassion daily, in deeds small and large – through your coaching, advocacy for members of our society who benefit from your voice, volunteering, everyday helping, and more. I want to thank you for the many ways you bring love into our world. I am honored to be part of this community.

How many of you reading this are itching to meet again in-person? Our ICF-CT Board has been in ongoing conversation around how and when to make that happen. We’d love to hear from you. Send your current feelings and thoughts on this to me. Thank you.

Right now, you can take advantage of these ICF-CT offerings intentionally designed to foster your connection to colleagues and to your unique member journey:

A Professional Enrichment Group – Where you can huddle with fellow coaches as you develop your coaching to a higher level; to integrate the new core competencies, get support from peers around challenges, and share resources.
• Monthly Chapter Meeting and Program – We’ve got a great line-up of presenters who are not only experts in their field but are skilled at engaging you through interactive presentations. This month, Karen Hinds, Founder/CEO of Workplace Success Group, is offering The Business Case for Building a Culture of Respect and Inclusion.
Our Coach Cafes – where serendipitous moments of connection, learning, and idea generation abound.

Believing in you,

Judy

P.S. I know I speak for us all when I say ‘thank you’ to ICF committees and
board members who listen deeply to the needs of our members and spring into action!

Thank you for a wonderful program James Garret from Brain By Design. We enjoyed learning about Brain Drain and Brain Gain.  Check out https://www.brainbydesign.com/ for more information on what James offers.

There is no doubt that we are in unprecedented times. Businesses that excel are responsive to the needs of their clients and employees and, more importantly, they stay ahead of an ever-changing world. We are in an era where building a culture of respect and empathy is no longer optional but is imperative for long-term business success.

As coaches, it is important to consider your client's context and environment as you prepare to help them explore beyond their current thinking. It is also imperative to revisit the how to coach without attachment when this topic is charged with emotion.
